From travel and food, to shopping and events— local-discovery platform Little Black Book has all the answers if you are out to discover Delhi, NCR and Bangalore. The company was started in 2012 by Suchita Salwan as a way to document all that she loved discovering in Delhi. Unlike most local discovery platforms that have a fairly sharp focus, LBB has its finger in every pie.
In this blog, Suchita talks about her love for her work, the importance of mentorship and all things marketing.
Tell us how LBB was able to establish such a huge user-base in such a short span of time?
A lot of hard work and dedication was the key. Also, by solving a real problem for urban consumers who are seeking new and interesting experiences in their city.
How are you planning to differentiate yourself from the plethora of other local discovery platforms that are starting to find their feet in the market?
Whatever your interests are, wherever you are, we want you to find something awesome to do in your city. We’re not reviews. You only add things you love/can vouch for in your little black book; and that helps keep our recommendations unique and high quality.
Our tech roadmap will see us invest in understanding each unique user as best as possible, so we have personalized feeds for users based on their previous browsing behavior, interests and searches to aid discovery.
Our mission is to make urban citizens step out and explore what’s awesome in their city, and in the next couple of months, you’ll see us drive this forward by enabling our users to make plans with their friends and access recommendations with ease through LBB.
These days we can see many app-based brands employing traditional media for their cross-media promotion. Is LBB planning to stick to digital media or incorporate traditional media in its marketing strategies?
We’ll always be digital first.
If you have to give three survival tips to budding entrepreneurs, what are they going to be?
Perseverance- Nothing substitutes hard work.
Mentorship- Get the best people, relevant to your business, to mentor you and give you guidance.
Confidence- It’s really easy to get bulldozed over, or follow a pack, when you’re starting up. Stick to your belief, and believe in yourself and your team.

Work, work, and more work. Fortunately, my work is a lot of fun on most days!
What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your journey with LBBD so far? How did you overcome them?
I think everything’s a challenge, to be honest – from having good wi-fi connection and hiring the right people for your company, to building new business streams and a broader user base for your product. In my experience, the best way to overcome any challenge is work with your team and your mentors to find the best solution for your company.
